MUA patient

Hello, My name is Samantha

I have been suffering with chronic low back pain that would shoot into my hip and leg for years. It was aggravated by prolonged activity, standing, sitting for long periods and bending and twisting, which was required in my work activities. During this time I had seen many doctors and had MRI s that showed multiple levels of disc degeneration and disc herniations.

I had been treating with Dr. Sofo, receiving chiropractic adjustments, traction, heat, EMS and stretching which did give me mild temporary relief. When it seemed that my condition had stopped improving, Dr. Sofo suggested I try manipulation under anesthesia.

The procedure is done over three consecutive days. After the first day my back was sore, but when I woke up on the second day it felt better. Progressively over the three days I felt better and better in terms of actual back pain. I had some sore muscles for a few days, which is expected due to the stretching and massaging. The week after the procedure when I came to Dr. Sofo s office I had absolutely no pain.

All in all, I would say this procedure has helped me enormously and my insurance covered it. It s been three months and I still feel great. I still see Dr. Sofo for adjustments and I have been working out and stretching and have seen improvement in my condition and lifestyle.

The procedure has brought me farther in the healing process than I ever expected! I m actually feeling better than I have in years!

MUA patient

Hello, My name is Judy

Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) is a non-invasive procedure offered for acute and chronic conditions, including neck pain, joint pain, muscle spasm, shortened muscles, fibrous adhesions, and long term syndromes. The procedure fully covered by the insurance company, is considered safe and is utilized to treat pain arising from cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine as well as sacroiliac and pelvic regions.

This procedure proved to be very effective for frustrated patients for whom traditional medicine failed. I was such a patient, and this is my story. In September of 2007, without any warning symptoms, I became completely incapacitated, and was in constant pain. Having lost my mobility, I exhibited all the symptoms listed above; Consequently, I started an odyssey of visits to general practitioners and orthopedic surgeons, who sent me for MRI s, blood tests, x-rays, and to a physical therapist. They supplied me with a rich and varied pharmacopoeia of pain killers which dulled my senses but not my pain.

When my misery did not abate, I was advised by a friend to see a chiropractor. I have never experienced back problems, and I had never visited a chiropractor prior to this episode, so when I came to Dr. Sofo of Princeton Chiropractic Center, my first statement to him was, you are my last resort . Dr. Sofo diagnosed my condition a Subluxation of the lower spine and started treatment which consisted of spinal adjustments, electric stimulation and stretches. The relief was immediate. As the treatment continued, Dr. Sofo monitored my progress, and when he realized that I had reached a plateau, he suggested that I undergo manipulation under anesthesia to alleviate, what he considered, a chronic condition. I had faith in his judgment, and agreed to the procedure, which was performed in a surgery center by licensed physicians with specialized training and certification specifically for this procedure. I am very grateful to Dr. Sofo for suggesting and executing this procedure. The results are amazing; I have restored mobility; I am free of pain and I have recovered the joy in movement unhampered by pain. Since my story has a happy ending, I am glad to share my experience with fellow sufferers.

MUA PatientHello, My name is David Clark

I hurt my back while carrying a ladder and twisting the wrong way. I tried every treatment I could and even did Physical Therapy for a year with only mild temporary relief of my symptoms. I started treating with Dr. Sofo and my symptoms decreased somewhat but I still suffered with the pain. When Dr. Sofo suggested the MUA I was very hesitant at first. He assured me that I was a good candidate for the procedure.

I did the procedure and at the completion of the procedure I had a mild decrease in the pain but I still could not do most of my activities. Dr. Sofo told me he thought the procedure went well and that it may take me up to 2 weeks to feel the full effects of what was just done. I continued with my follow up care and amazingly almost exactly 2 weeks after the procedure I woke up one morning and my pain was gone. It is now a year and a half since I had my MUA done and I am still pain free and can perform all my normal activities. I do physical work every day and can work hard all day with no limitations and no pain. Having the MUA changed my life in only positive ways.

Hello, My name is Diane Irwin

I developed lower back pain and sciatica in 2007. The pain gradually worsened over the year. I was treated medically for over a year with no real relief. I had to stop exercising completely. I could not sit or stand for any length of time. My sleep was terribly interrupted. I slept for a couple of hours and could never sleep through the entire night. Every activity in my life was affected.

When I first met with Dr. Sofo he could barely adjust me. During the first few months I got some relief and was able to get back to a few normal life activities. I seemed to be stuck at this point. I decided to get the MUA and things got much better. My lower back was completely pain free. I also got relief in my leg and the sciatica was gone for the first time in 1 and a half years. I am pain free able to walk 4 miles and am exercising again.
